Homework Packet (for the week of ....)
Backpack Reader Project
Each week your child will read a story to you then you will ask them 3 questions about the book, finally your child will create a project about the story using your questions to guide them.
Word Study
Students were given a spelling inventory to determine what spelling level they are at. We split students into three different spelling groups (Opal, Emerald, and Sapphire). Using the "Words Their Way" (Bear) approach students learn their spelling words by splitting them into categories and making connections through visual movement of flash cards and making word relationships. Student should know how many categories they will have to split their words into each week because every bag of words has category starters (or a title) such as CVC (consonant, vowel consonant) use those words as the heading and match the other words underneath them. For more of an in depth explanation click the button below and then watch the video.

Reading
Students read 20 minutes a night and log it into their homework and then write a complete sentence about what their favorite part was. We suggest a chapter book but if they are reading multiple picture books they are to log in just one book and write about it.
